MISSION ACTIVITIES: DAY 1

Each trip started off the same, after a overnight flight arriving in Puerto Rico at 2 a.m. , we came together at 8 a.m. to learn the flow of the trip and fellowship over a light breakfast. Then we  heading out to meet the KITCHEN call time for preparing the meals. We were volunteering at an ongoing effort of World Central Kitchen to feed the islands hardest hit communities. At the kitchen, we were positioned at stations helping chop, sort, stir and bundle utensil packages in sets of 40. Deliveries from local farmers of fresh produce were often occurrences as well as locals helping deliver food to residents without access to vehicles and electricity. By noon, our volunteers were ready to head out to the communities and connect with the people in need. After about 2 hours we found it hard to wrap up with that activity but we had to another stop. Around 3 p.m., we headed to an outdoor pavilion where we invited a community to come and receive our compassion packs. This gave our partner for the trip Action Chapel Pennsylvania an opportunity to minister to the spiritual needs of the community. Over 200 people were waiting as we arrived and we provided them with food, clothes, shoes, hygiene and cleaning supplies, warm hugs and an uplifting message. Upon completing this task, we loaded up our 2 vans around 9 p.m. and headed for the hotel in preparation for Day Two.
